Hello, I’m Isabelle Decallonne, I’m 54 years old, married and mother of 2 sons.
I grew up in Leuven, studied Product Design in Antwerp and was active in the music and culture sector for 25 years. In 2018 I set up a stained glass studio called Illumen in an outbuilding of our house. Lumen is the unit of brightness, and with the first letter of my first name it sounds quite nice
As a certified product developer I want to make beautiful, solid and authentic products that you can enjoy every day. For me, a stained glass window embodies everything I love as a maker: intuitive puzzling with light, shapes, colours and textures, infinite magical and blissful effects, a traditional production process. In short: an old craft with a fresh wind blowing through.
Thanks to the thorough initiation at the renowned Atelier Mestdagh in Ghent, the training in stained glass window art at the Academy of Anderlecht and especially the many lead-setting hours in my own studio, I learned the tricks of this wonderfully beautiful craft.
In my studio I prefer to draw and realize abstract designs, with a timeless character and an optimistic twist.
In my work I strive to make maximum use of recovered flat glass. Feast your eyes on the gallery, who knows, you might come across a work that intrigues you. Check out my Instagram page for more artworks.
